  • Why Does Rustic and Renewed Decor only Ship to Canada?
At this time, we only ship within Canada. As a small Ontario-based business, we've made the careful decision to focus on serving our Canadian customers with the highest quality service. Why Canada Only? Money Matters: Shipping across borders can be very expensive, and it’s hard for us to manage those costs and offer cost effective products, since wood products tend to be heavy. Product Considerations: Our handcrafted wood items are heavy and need special care when being shipped. Quality Focus: e want to make sure that everything arrives safely and that our customers are happy, which is easier for us to do in Canada. For Our Canadian Customers: We provide quick and reliable shipping from Sarnia, ON (some packages are also shipped from London, ON). You can pick up your order in Sarnia, and we can deliver to Lambton County and places within two hours of Sarnia if you ask. You won’t have to worry about extra duty fees or delays at the border. We’re glad that so many people outside Canada are interested in our rustic products! As we grow, we might look at shipping to other countries in the future. Want us to ship to your country? • How Do You Support Sustainability?
At Rustic & Renewed Decor, we create beautiful wood pieces while being gentle on the planet. We believe that great decor doesn’t have to harm the environment How We Protect Forests & Reduce Waste: 3% for Reforestation When you buy something from us, 3% of your purchase goes to [Tree Canada] to help plant new trees across the country Made-to-Order = Zero Inventory Waste We only cut wood when you place an order. This means there’s no extra, unused wood going to waste. Customization Reduces Replacements By creating pieces that are just the right size and color for you, we help you love your decor longer and avoid needing to replace items often. Additional Eco-Friendly Practices: Focus on Reclaimed Wood: About 50% of the wood we use is reclaimed or salvaged from old pallets. This helps us reduce waste and give new life to materials. Water-Based Finishes or Oils: For any items that will be used with food or by kids, we use safe, water-based finishes. For things that will face wear and tear, we apply a durable varathane. Local Sourcing: We buy most of our wood from local farmers, vendors, and sawmills in Southwestern Ontario, so about 95% of our wood is grown right here in Ontario. When we do use exotic wood, we always purchase it from Ontario vendors too. By following these practices, we make sure our beautiful decor is also kind to the environment!

  • What Materials Do You Use and Where Are They Sourced?
At Rustic & Renewed Decor, we carefully choose materials that are beautiful, durable, and good for the environment. Each piece we create has its own unique story. Our Wood Selection Reclaimed Wood (50% of our materials): Pallet wood – We use heat-treated wood from suppliers in Southwestern Ontario. We do not collect wood from the roadside because we can't be sure it hasn’t been treated with harmful chemicals. Barn wood & architectural salvage – This wood is locally reclaimed and adds character to our pieces. Reclaimed Hardwood - This wood is heat-treated and comes from a supplier that uses natural grains, so it’s safe and hasn’t been chemically treated. No Nail Holes - Our reclaimed hardwood provides a cleaner look than pallet wood while still showing natural imperfections like knots and variations in color. Eco Friendly - Using reclaimed wood helps us avoid cutting down new trees. Wood (Responsibly Sourced): Hardwoods and Softwoods We source these from family-owned mills, farmers, and Canadian stores in Ontario. Unmilled wood– We tend to buy unmilled wood so it can be milled to size and thickness. This wood is processed in our workshop to ensure quality. Drying: he wood is either kiln-dried or air-dried for more than 12 months to make it stable. Why it matters: This supports local economies since 95% of our materials come from Southwestern Ontario. It helps reduce waste by reusing old wood instead of throwing it away. It ensures the wood is strong and reliable by drying it properly. Finishes & Safety Indoor Pieces: Stains: We use Minwax and Varathane Premium stains, including low-VOC options for safer use indoors. Protective Coating: We apply a water-based polycrylic for clear and lasting durability. For items that don’t come into contact with food or children, we may use a stronger finish like Varathane. Outdoor Collections: Marine-Grade Spar Urethane: This provides great protection against weather. UV-inhibited sealants / Outdoor Polyurethene: These help prevent the wood from fading in the sun. Food-Safe Solutions: Walrus Oil/Wax : This is a blend of (organic coconut oil + beeswax blend) Certified food-safe polycrylic :This water-based finish is safe to use around food and takes 15 days to cure properly.
  • Why Are Most of Your Products Made To Order?
We craft pieces just for you to ensure they match your unique style—wood type, size, and stain are all customizable. Storing pre-made items drives up costs (and prices!), and we’d rather avoid waste by only producing what’s loved. Bonus perks: ✔️ Less environmental impact (no unsold inventory). ✔️ More choices (want something truly one-of-a-kind? Go custom!). ✔️ Occasional deals (discounted leftover pieces from craft shows).
