Custom Wood Shapes and Cutouts

Your idea. Your shape. Handcrafted in wood.

Let Us Create a One of a Kind Piece for You

Have an animal, leaf, flower, object or meaningful shape in mind? Send us an outline, silhouette, photograph or sketch, and we’ll explore how it can be transformed into a one-of-a-kind wood creation.

From shaped charcuterie boards and wall décor to decorative cutouts and epoxy-filled designs, each project is created individually and handcrafted in Canada.

Turn an Idea Into Something Made Just for You

Custom woodworking does not have to begin with a standard product. Sometimes it begins with a shape that means something to you.

It could be your favourite animal, a dog breed, a Canadian wildlife silhouette, a leaf, a cottage symbol or an object connected to a hobby, business or special memory. If the design can be converted into a practical outline or template, we may be able to create it in wood.

You can provide a finished outline, a simple drawing, an inspiration photo or even an idea that needs to be refined. We’ll review it with you and explain what is possible before any work begins.

Custom-Shaped Wood Pieces

The outside edge of the wood is cut into your requested shape.

Custom shapes can be used to create:

  • Cutting, charcuterie and serving boards

  • Wall décor and wooden silhouettes

  • Signs and shelf décor

  • Coasters and trivets

  • Pet-themed pieces

  • Seasonal decorations

  • Personalized gifts and keepsakes

Depending on the intended use, pieces can be handcrafted from hardwood, pine, reclaimed wood or other suitable wood.

Epoxy-Filled Designs

Some shapes can be recessed or cut into the wood and filled with coloured epoxy.

Epoxy can be used to add:

  • Dog paws or pet-themed designs

  • Maple leaves and Canadian symbols

  • Flowers, leaves, trees or mountains

  • Wine, beer and coffee-inspired designs

  • Lakes, rivers, waves or ocean accents

  • Initials, dates or meaningful symbols

  • Simple logos or branded elements

Epoxy colours can be selected to complement the wood and the intended design.

Made for Its Intended Use

The shape is only part of the design. We will also consider how the finished piece will be used.

Food and serving pieces are made from suitable wood and protected with a food-safe finish. Wall décor, signs and decorative pieces may be created from pine, reclaimed wood, pallet wood or hardwood and can be stained, painted or clear-coated.

We’ll recommend an appropriate wood, thickness and finish based on the shape, size, level of detail and intended use.

Important Things to Know

Wood needs enough width and strength to support the finished design. Very narrow sections, sharp extensions or intricate interior details may need to be adjusted.

Because every piece of wood has its own grain, colouring and natural characteristics, the finished piece will be one of a kind.

We will explain any recommended design changes before you approve the project.

How Custom-Shaped Designs Work

1. Submit Your Design

Provide a clear, ready-to-use JPG, PNG or SVG showing the exact outline or silhouette you want created. Include the approximate finished size, intended use and your preferred wood and finish.

Your design must have a complete, clearly defined outline and enough resolution to be resized. You must own the design or have permission to use it.

For the best results, your image should have:

  • A complete, clearly defined outside edge

  • No background, shadows or unrelated objects

  • Enough resolution to be enlarged to the requested size

  • No extremely narrow or delicate areas that may break when cut from wood

If you need help, we can help you create a design, but will be added on to the cost of the item for development time. We have access to graphics we own and also have graphic packages we can utilize to modify or create from scratch.

2. We Review Its Suitability

We’ll determine whether the design can be safely created in wood. We can enlarge or reduce the image, but we do not redraw, trace, clean up or alter submitted designs. If the file cannot be used as provided, you will need to submit another one.

3. Approve the Quote

You’ll receive the project details, price and estimated completion time. A 50% deposit is required before work begins.

4. We Create Your Piece

Once approved, we’ll create the template and handcraft your custom piece. Progress photos will be provided so you can see your project taking shape.
