My Story – Handcrafted with Love
Hi there! I'm Karen Fischer, the heart and hands behind Rustic & Renewed Decor. I'm a Canadian woodworker with a passion for turning reclaimed and new wood into beautiful,rustic / farmhouse pieces full of character.
I discovered my love for woodworking while restoring a 125-year-old heritage home. Handling reclaimed boards and raw lumber sparked a passion that quickly grew into a small business. I fell in love with the idea of giving old wood a second life, while also creating functional pieces that bring warmth and personality to homes.
Each board I select has a story. Some come from old barns, others from local mills or small farmers in Southwestern Ontario. I know exactly how each board has been treated — air-dried or kiln-dried — and, thanks to a neighbor just around the corner, I can kiln-dry any wood I need for stability and quality. Every step is intentional, ensuring that each piece is built to last.
Sustainability in Action
Sustainability is at the heart of everything I do. I donate 3% of every sale to Tree Canada to help reforest Ontario. Since 2023, this has helped plant 100s of trees — and the count keeps growing.
By sourcing wood from small, local vendors and reclaiming old boards, I reduce waste and support the local community. Every purchase isn’t just a décor choice — it’s a small contribution to a greener, more responsible way of making.

Most pieces are made-to-order or fully custom, because I believe your décor should feel personal. You choose the wood type, size, and finish — and I handle the rest. I provide updates, photos, and guidance along the way so you’re part of the process. Sometimes those updates even spark a last-minute change that makes the piece even more perfect.
