My Story – Handcrafted with Love
Introducing the Maker!
Hey there — I'm Karen, the maker behind Rustic & Renewed Decor. My woodworking started while restoring furniture, refinishing wood pieces, and making things for our 125-year-old heritage home. Somewhere between stripping old finishes, bringing tired boards back to life, and building pieces from scratch, I got hooked on the character in every grain and knot. What began as home projects turned into a workshop, and now each piece I make gets that same attention: one at a time, by hand.

Sustainability in Action
Sustainability isn’t a trend here—it’s part of how I build.
-
Reclaimed wood reduces waste and gives old materials new life.
-
Local sourcing supports small businesses in the community.
-
3% of every sale is donated to Tree Canada to help reforest Canada.
-
Most pieces are made-to-order, so nothing is built to sit on a shelf — every item has a purpose, which reduces waste and overproduction.
Every piece you buy supports a small workshop, a local supply chain, and a greener Canada.
Materials That Matter
I’m thrilled to work with reclaimed wood and locally sourced softwoods and hardwoods from the beautiful Southwestern Ontario! Each board is handpicked and prepared for stability and longevity. Knowing where my materials come from, how they've been treated, and how to bring out their character matters to me — this isn't ordinary lumber, it's wood with a history.
Built Around You
Most of what I make is made-to-order or custom, though I keep a Ready to Ship collection for pieces you need sooner. For made-to-order, you choose the size, wood, and finish, and I take care of the rest. For custom, we design the piece together from the ground up. Either way, I'll share updates and photos along the way so you're part of the process, not just a buyer at the end of it. No two pieces are exactly the same — and that's the point.
Custom examples:
-
A spice rack built to fit a customer’s exact jar sizes and matched to her kitchen stain.
-
Walnut-and-maple coasters created to complement a previously purchased cutting board. I made two versions until they felt just right, and she decided she wanted both.
I am happy when my creations become part of your home's story!

What I Stand For
Building Sustainability
Using reclaimed wood isn't just a design choice — it's a commitment. Every reclaimed board I use keeps material out of waste and gives it a second life in your home.
I also donate 3% of every order to Tree Canada to help restore Ontario's forests. It's a small thing that adds up.
Honesty & Integrity First
I'll always be upfront about the materials I use, how they're finished, and what to expect from your order. No surprises, no hidden costs — just clear communication from the first message to the moment your piece arrives.
Keeping it Local
The wood I use comes from local suppliers right here in Southwestern Ontario, and I ship through a Canadian carrier based in Ontario. When you buy from me, you're supporting a chain of small Canadian businesses — not a warehouse overseas.
Your Satisfaction Matters
I stay in touch throughout the build with photos and updates because I want you to love what arrives at your door. If something isn't right, we'll make it right.
